The first essay here “Anio Aalto and the Birth of Finnish Modernism” was an opportunity to research the life of Aino Aalto, the wife of Alvar Aalto, and co-founder of Artek. I wanted this essay to shine some light on her critical importance within this creative duo. The second essay, “Nordic Muses” explores the worlds of three Finnish illustrators, Tove Jansson, Oili Tanninen, and one of my favorite illustrators, Sanna Annukka.
